Much bitterness has arisen between Kerahant

Guilds Students and Strike Dommittees over the subject of

foreign goods.

The "Chopping" was proved not to be feasible and

a tri foliate system was substituted.

Stocks were mustered and invoices kept, one by

All one by Students, and one to accompany goods. sales to be notified and any sale beyond the original invoiced quantity carried heavy penalties.

Marchants closed shops in protest but have now (10th July) reopened and are prepared to resist interfermos.

Apart from this rift the boycott is very complete

and ably managed.

9. The British Consul has no means of transport, no

interpreter, no servant, and is entirely dependent on

"BLUEBELL".

Incident of morning 7th July,

10. In view of the outory raised over this incident,

herewith the accurate details.

About 2100, 6th July, the Commissioner of Customs sent me a letter stating that his own servant and also Mr. Hao Donald's (all belonging to Customs Service) had been intimidated and threats of burning Mr. MacDonald's house had been expressoủ. That he would fire both barrels of his 12 bore if anything untoward occurred.

At about 0740 on 7th July two shots were heard and an armed party immediately proceeded under Lieut.Drage's

charge.
